Youth Conservation Corps Summer Employment

The Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) offers summer employment to youth, ages 15 through 18 , interested in conservation-related career fields. The program is an excellent opportunity for young people to work on a wide variety of projects that .will have a lasting impact on the natural environment and wildlife.

Local high school students are encouraged to take advantage of this exciting and challenging opportunity for summer employment. The refuge is interested in hiring creative, responsible and self -motivated applicants to fill the available positions.

The eight-week, non-residential program at Chincoteague NWR will hire six youths from the local area and will run from June 27 through August 19. Applicants must have transportation to and from the refuge each day. This position will be challenging, due to working in hot, humid, and buggy conditions; but rewarding in giving young people a sense of accomplishment in doing projects that will result in the education and conservation of their natural environment.

A YCC Group Leader will also be hired to supervise the enrollees, and this position will begin on June 20 through August 26. Enrollees will work five eight-hour days per week, Monday through Friday, and be paid Federal minimum wage.
