[From Spring 2006]
Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge is proud to announce that Priscilla Park (age 14) of Centreville, Virginia, is the Virginia Best of show winner in this year's Federal Junior Duck Stamp contest. Park's acrylic entry depicted a single snow goose swimming in front of marsh grasses.
Park's artwork was selected out of over 575 entries on March 31, 2006, by a panel of 5 judges consisting of federal and state duck stamp artists, Wil Goebel and Tim Donovan; federal and state biologists, Amanda Daisey and Ruth Beottcher; and Principal Specialist of fine arts (VA Department of Education) Cherry Gardner. Bass Pro Shops of Hampton, Virginia, graciously provided a Redhead blind bag and a duck call/video to the Best of Show winner.
The Virginia Best of Show entry joined Best of Show entries from around the country at the National Junior Duck Stamp Contest in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, April 20, 2006. All of these winning entries now become part of a year-long traveling exhibit throughout the country.
The nationwide Federal Duck stamp Program is a unique way for students K-12 to learn about and enjoy North American waterfowl. For more information on this wonderful program visit http://fws.gov/duckstamps , call or write the Refuge at P.O. Box 62, Chincoteague, Virginia 23336 (757) 336-6122
