[From Summer 2004]

Assateague Island Uniquely Presented

We are proud to announce that we will soon have a fine new book in our collection of offerings, tentatively entitled, Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. Noted photographer, turned author, Irene Hinke-Sacilotto presented a proposal to CNHA to partner in the book's production. After we reached an agreement, Irene began seeking a publisher. Not surprisingly, she quickly interested the first few she approached and then settled upon Westcliff Publishers.

This house has published works from Sierra Club and other environmental groups. Based in Englewood, Colorado, its authors include Denver's John Fielder, an award-winning nature photographer, and a wide variety of first-class titles by fine authors and artists.

All its many offerings depict the glory of America's wilderness from coast to coast and revolve around a reverence for nature, including ways to access and enjoy it respectfully. The works include hiking guides, wildflower hikes, restorations of historical wilderness landmarks, and much more. Clearly, this is a publisher in tune with CNHA's mission to inform and encourage appreciation of preserving some spaces for wild Iife now and in the future by documenting such places in breathtaking photography.

With Virginia's Eastern Shore an area second to none in natural beauty, we're very excited over Sacilotto's book and her chosen publisher. Her finished product is simply and beautifully done, capturing the nuances of Assateague masterfully.

For those who enjoy outstanding photography with little text, this is the book to get. Captions offer educational insights and enhance the experience of viewing Assateague in its varied moods, lights and seasons. We are especially pleased since there is currently no other book like Sacilotto's in that it is totally dedicated to Assateague. This fine work took a lot of dedication and many hours of hard work. The author's professionalism shines through on every page and we feel certain that visitors will find it informative as well as esthetically pleasing.

If all goes well, this new addition to our educational library's offerings will be available within the first quarter of 2005. Please take a moment to look it over when you visit us next year; you'll be glad you did.
