[From Summer 2005]

Summer Interpretive Program Schedule

A variety of staff-led adventures await the refuge visitor as the summer sizzles with interpretive programs that begin on Sunday, June 19, and continue until Monday, September 5. Several new programs, such as "Wildlife and Technology," "Back Deck Programs," and "Natural Wonders" will be centered around the Educational and Administrative Center (HHBEAC). "Natural Wonders" will be held at 10 a.m. in the Noah Williams Classroom. The program introduces youth to the island's natural resources.

Interested in a bird walk but you're not an "early bird'? You can still catch the "worm" on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. with "Birds & More" - a late afternoon stroll along the Freshwater Marsh Trail that allows visitors a chance to meet the refuge's feathered residents and then some! A new walk which introduces visitors to the technological tools used by refuge biologists will be held on 10 a.m. on Thursdays. "Wildlife and Technology" will meet at the HHBEAC.

The ever popular "Bird Walk" will be conducted at 7:30 a.m. on Saturdays. Meet at the Bird Walk sign along Beach Road and discover the joy of birding and the refuge's rich bird life.

An evening program will be conducted at 8 p.m. on Wednesdays. Experience what happens after the sun goes down by joining refuge staff on this "Night Hike." Meet at the Wildlife Loop Parking Lot - the island's nightlife awaits you!

For more information on these programs, please stop by the HHBEAC or call 757-336-6122.
