[From Summer 1994]

Second Annual Eastern Shore Birding Festival

If you missed it last year, don't make the same mistake twice! Mark your calendar for the weekend of October 8 and 9, 1994, and plan to enjoy a spectacular fall weekend on the Shore during the peak of the fall migration of songbirds and hawks.

The central point for coordination of festival activities is the Sunset Beach Inn, which is located, at the southern tip of Virginia's Eastern Shore, just north of the Chesapeake Bay-Bridge-Tunnel toll plaza on U.S. Route 13. The Inn grounds front on the bay and are adjacent to the Eastern Shore of Virginia National Wildlife Refuge, Fisherman's Island National Wildlife Refuge, Kiptopeke State Park, State Wildlife Management Areas, and conservation areas owned by the Nature Conservancy. This area serves as a critical corridor for migrating songbirds as they are funneled to this point on the Delmarva Peninsula on the way south to their winter homes.

Both the Chincoteague and Eastern Shore Wildlife Refuge will be participating in this special event. A variety of activities are planned for the entire weekend. Included are:
