New Faces at Eastern Shore NWR

The interpretive staff at the refuge has tripled in size with the addition of two new permanent employees. The new Outdoor Recreation Planner position was actually filled by a familiar face at Chincoteague and Eastern Shore of Virginia refuges. Sheila Faith, who was a temporary Recreation Assistant at both refuges (and a volunteer at Chincoteague) started her new position at the refuge on May 23. We also look forward to having her husband Joe working on our computer problems.

Sherry Fritschi was selected for the Recreation Assistant position and started work on June 1. She had spent eleven years working temporary and term Park Ranger positions with the National Park Service. Sherry worked at Shenandoah National Park for most of her career, but also spent time at Big South Fork National River and Recreational Area in Tennessee and the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. Sherry and her husband Ed will be living on the refuge.

Other new faces you may not have seen at the refuge are Michael Mitchell, his wife Hasina and their new baby son Tai. Mike replaced Refuge Operation Specialist Jim Wood who retired in November 1998.

Mike was the one and only staff person at Seal Beach NWR in California, which is one of the refuges under the San Diego Complex. After that experience, he thinks he's working with a large staff! Should we send him on a detail to Chincoteague NWR during pony penning?
