New Observation Platform

Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge staff are busy making improvements to the public use program. For example, refuge staff and volunteers constructed a new observation platform on the Freshwater Marsh Trail.

The new platform was created in just two short weeks. Of course, we must give credit where credit is due. And the job could not have been completed without the skill and expertise provided by Vince Paterra, a licensed architect, who volunteered over 40 hours of his time to prepare "working" drawings. Additionally, Vince worked at the refuge for two weeks to supervise the construction of the new platform.

Refuge staff and volunteers, Bob Walker, Fred Pulis, Don McCloughan and John Schmidt also worked diligently on the platform. Refuge maintenance staff were key in putting the final touches on the platform to complete it by Memorial Day weekend. Future plans for the platform include the addition of interpretive panels and spotting scopes
