[From Fall 2004]
This summer, in addition to the "women in brown," speakers included guest
artists, carvers, and cultural history buffs, who conducted an array of stellar
summer specials in the new visitor center's auditorium. Decoy carver Reggie
Birch and artists Nancy West and Jenny Somers presented programs on several
afternoons and evenings that were quite popular with visitors. Mark Greenley, a
local resident who specializes in history about Native Americans who occupied
the Delmarva Peninsula, as well as staff from NASA, also conducted programs
throughout the summer.
By inviting people from our community to join refuge staff and have them present
a varied and educational series of programs, we were able to appeal to and draw
refuge visitors who were looking for something unique and different to occupy
their late afternoons and early evenings.
