[From Fall & Winter 2006]
Description: Staff and trained volunteers
will lead the participants through the refuge out to the beach. Discussions
include wildlife management on refuges and the rich history of Fisherman Island.
The tour is a 3-4 mile guided walk across soft and hard-packed sand. Wear sturdy
walking shoes and be prepared for the weather conditions which are often colder
and windier than on the mainland.
Schedule of Tours: From October to March, Saturday mornings 9:00 AM until
12:00 PM
Location: Meet at Visitor Center on Eastern Shore of Virginia National
Wildlife Refuge by 8:45 AM to convoy across bridge to Fisherman Island.
Reservations are required but there is no fee.
