[From Fall 1994]
The second annual Eastern Shore Birding Festival will take place on the weekend of October 8 and 9, at Kiptopeke, Virginia which is at the southern tip of Virginia's Eastern Shore.
This unique event provides an opportunity to celebrate the peak of fall migration at a globally important bird concentration point, and to support bird conservation through the responsible stewardship of their critical habitat. Virginia's Eastern Shore creates a natural funnel, focusing the migration of birds through the lower part of the Delmarva Peninsula. Thousands of songbirds and raptors congregate in this area in preparation for their annual flight to the tropics.
Weekend events will include a variety of guided activities, exhibits, workshops, speaker presentations, children's programs, and food and retail vendors. The Sunset Beach Inn, which is located just north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, is the staging area for most of the festival activities.
Activities at Eastern Shore of Virginia National Wildlife Refuge include trail hikes, Wise Point hikes, Inland Passage canoe trips and Fisherman Island tours. At Chincoteague NWR, there will be bird hikes and White Hills hikes. Other activities will take place at eight different locations on the Eastern Shore.
