More Member Minutiae

In response to my article in the last issue, James & Karen M. moved from Fairfax, VA, to Eau Claire, WI, just so they could become our northern-most members!

Flushed with the excitement of my new-found influence, I decided to write a sequel about our loyal and generous members. I figured after reading this column several members would decide to become LIFE members - heck, it's cheaper than moving nearly 1000 miles! So here goes.

Just how generous are CNHA members? Take a look at the following.

Membership Level %
Individual 38
Family 39
Contributing 16
Supporting 5
Benefactor 1
Life 1

About one out of four of our members is supporting the CNHA at a level above the basic Individual or Family level. I'd say that's pretty generous! Of course it would be nice if the ratio was the inverse - just think how much more the CNHA could do.

In addition to their generosity, CNHA members are also loyal. How loyal? Well, 40% of our members have been with us five or more years, and almost 1/2 of those members (20% of total membership) have been with us since the formation of our partnership with the Chincoteague refuge ten years ago. Because our membership has grown substantially since our formation in 1986, that 20% figure represents most of our original members. The actual statistics are:

Years of Membership %
One or less 10
One to five 50
Five to ten 40

Since you obviously value your CNHA membership, why not share your good fortune with a special friend or relative by giving them a gift membership.

Now that I've "used" James and Karen M. for my nefarious purpose, I have a confession. They may not have moved solely due to my influence. But I received a wonderful letter from James, recounting how they were introduced to our "land of pleasant living" in October, 1974, and have been coming to the Oyster Festival every year since. They've also been joined by six more couples!

We'd like to hear from you too! Drop us a line.

Editor
