[From Fall 1997]
Chincoteague Refuge was proud to host a summer public-use program jam-packed with exciting and educational activities for the whole family. During June through August, we guided more than 1,500 visitors through refuge bird walks, interpretive hikes, and evening auditorium programs.
The summer public-use season boasted three bird walks, two interpretive hikes on the Freshwater Marsh and Woodland Trails, and two evening auditorium programs per week: "Showy Birds of Chincoteague" and "Threatened and Endangered Species of Chincoteague Refuge."
Much of the credit must be given to Jennifer Lundin, the refuge's Education Specialist, and three summer interns - Darlene Mann, Diana Ruiz, and Anne Poole - who literally worked around-the-clock to provide visitors with unprecedented opportunities for wildlife-dependent recreation. In addition, the assistance of Volunteers Margaret and Bill Dunson and Dick Roberts was invaluable.
Beginning in October, the public use staff will be offering weekend movie nights, bird walks, and Lighthouse Trail walks.
I am looking forward to continuing the refuge's long-standing commitment to high-quality public use programs.

Supervisory ORP
