[From Winter 1997-98]
Plans are currently underway for the 4th Annual International Migratory Bird Celebration which will be held at Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge May 8-10, 1998.
Outdoor Recreation Planner (ORP) Ray Paterra and I will begin planning meetings with celebration partners in January 1998. Last year, more than 9,000 people visited the refuge during the celebration and were treated to wildlife photography workshops, special bird walks and interpretive hikes, a wildlife art show, and a host of family activities including building bird houses and making bird feeders.
The refuge will also sponsor a children's art contest, as well as an adult art contest, to select the logos for the 1998 celebration. The winning artwork from the children's logo contest will appear on the celebration buttons and the winning artwork from the adult logo contest will appear on the celebration T-shirts.
A variety of special events will be offered during the 1998 celebration. If you are interested in volunteering to assist the 4th Annual International Migratory Bird Celebration Planning Committee, please contact me at (757) 336-6122.
